Lonad caves sculptures date back to 5th to 8th century AD. Buddhist monks used to reside in these caves; they traveled from Nala Sopara port on the western coast toJunnar (capital of the Satavahana Empire). Lonad Caves inBhiwandi exhibits rock cut Buddhist temple sculptures and Hindu sculptures. A chaitya Grih (Large Prayer Hall) is the main sculpture of these caves. The chaitya griha sets tothe south-west sides. There are as well 2 - 3 rooms whichare in an incomplete state. Caves are adorned with thenice designs and stone figures.

How to reach ?
Lonad caves is situated neary by kalyan city and its hardly 10 km away from kalyan railway station.
From kalyan bus depot catch a bus going to padgha and get down at sawad naka and from here take a auto to lonad caves which is just 2 km away and the alternative route is from Mumbai nashik highway turn right on sonale phata and continue till jambhavli Village and then turn left for lonad caves and right for lonad shiv mandir..
