Hi, welcome to Snorkel Planet! We are Martin and Kaya. In this video we share our personal Top 9 snorkel locations in Florida. We cover beaches, reefs, the marine life and travel tips.

1. Peanut Island (East coast):
Peanut Island offers surprisingly great snorkeling near a busy shore. You can take a boat or rent a kayak. The eastern side of the island receives a continuous stream of fresh ocean water. That's where snorkeling is best. You'll be amazed by the marine life. Even manatees enjoy the lagoon next to the beach.

2. Biscayne National Park (East coast):
Biscayne National Park includes islands, coral reefs and mangroves. Boats depart from a little harbor. However, weather conditions must be favorable for snorkeling. Popular and fascinating snorkel spots include Anniversary Reef and Ball Buoy Reef. The Mandalay Shipwreck could be a great pick for adventurous snorkelers.

3. Key Largo (Florida Keys):
Key Largo offers snorkeling directly off the beach at the John Pennekamp State Park. However, some of the best snorkeling is out on the reefs (which requires a boat tour). One of our favorite outer reefs is called Dry Rocks. The underwater statue Christ of the Abyss is located nearby.

4. Islamorada (Florida Keys):
Islamorada is home to some shallow snorkel spots with healthy coral reefs: Alligator reef, Cheeca Rocks & Hen and Chickens. You'll be able to observe various fish species. The protected reef at Hen and Chickens might even allow you to spot a few sea turtles.

5. Sombrero Beach (Florida Keys):
You can snorkel at Sombrero Beach itself, or you could join a boat tour towards Sombrero Reef. Sombrero beach is partially a turtle nesting area. You'll also find parks with volleyball courts and picnic areas. The outer reef can be visited by joining a boat tour.

6. Key West (Florida Keys):
Key West offers both beaches and offshore reefs to explore. Fort Zachary Taylor is quite nice for snorkeling directly off the beach with various fish species to observe. The outer coral reefs contain both coral and a diverse marine life. Once again, visiting the outer reefs requires a boat tour.

7. Destin (Northwest):
Destin offers lovely white sandy beaches with very clear water. Some popular (and interesting) snorkel spots include Henderson Beach State Park, Norriego Point and the East Pass Jetties. There's a partially submerged reef at the Jetties which attracts various fish species to observe.

8. Crystal River (West coast):
The fun thing about Crystal River is the fact that from mid-November until late March you'll find loads of manatees in this spot. There are a few locations within the are that allow you to snorkel with these endangered marine mammals. Yo do need to join a tour. Three Sisters Springs and King Spring are both great options.

9. Sanibel Island (West coast):
On Sanibel Island you can either snorkel directly off the beach or join a boat tour towards an outer reef. If shell beaches and an impressive wildlife are your thing, Sanibel Island could be a great pick.
