Knowing if my Unschoolers understand European Portuguese correctly can happen in different ways:
1. conversing in Portuguese
2. hearing them pronounce something in Portuguese
3. have then transcribe an audio in Portuguese (even if it’s fast Portuguese)

Option #3 is my favourite one. I call it phonetic dictation and it’s great because it allows them to listen to the same audio in Portuguese a few times, see what they understand or misunderstood. Then I come in to analyze why the dictation was accurate or not. We always learn so much from this exercise!
