≈ सुमना श्रेष्ठ र नेपाली राजनीति ≈

राष्ट्रिय स्वतन्त्र पार्टी (रास्वपा) की सांसद एवं पूर्वमन्त्री सुमना श्रेष्ठले नयाँ पुस्ताको नयाँ राजनीतिलाई प्रतिनिधित्व गर्छिन् । अघिल्लो सरकारका पालामा करिब चार महिनामात्र शिक्षामन्त्री छँदा पनि उनको कार्यशैली सार्वजनिक चर्चाको बिषय बनेको थियो । संघीय सांसदका रूपमा समेत उनको सक्रियता प्रभावकारी देखिएको छ ।

शिक्षा मन्त्रालय चलाउँदा उनको अनुभव कस्तो रह्यो ? एक नागरिकका रुपमा राज्यलाई बाहिरबाट हेर्दा र राज्यकै अंग बनेर काम गर्दा कस्तो भिन्नता महसूस हुँदो रहेछ ? के नेपाल ‘बनाउन’ सम्भव छ ? यसका लागि विदेशमा रहेको नेपाली डायस्पोरालाई कसरी जोड्न सकिन्छ ? अहिले युवा पुस्तामा यति धेरै आक्रोश किन बढेको होला ? के हाम्रो राजनीतिक नेतृत्वले यो अवस्थालाई सम्बोधन गर्न सक्छ ? कि मुलुक बाङ्लादेशको बाटोतर्फ मोडिने डिलमा छ ? अनि, रास्वपा सभापति रवि लामिछाने सहकारी प्रकरणसम्बन्धी संसदीय छानवीनमा दोषी ठहरिए भने के हुन्छ ?

हामीले यसपटक यी र यस्तै विषयमा केन्द्रित रहेर सांसद सुमना श्रेष्ठसँग वार्तालाप गरेका छौं । यसमा उनका राजनीतिक दृष्टिकोण, आर्थिक मान्यता, नेपाली समाजप्रतिको बुझाई, देशका मूल समस्याहरुको पहिचान, व्यक्तिगत अनुभूतिलगायत थुप्रै कुराहरु खुलस्त ढंगबाट आएका छन् ।

Sumana Shrestha is a member of federal parliament, serving in the House of Representatives as a proportional representative of the indigenous community through the Rastriya Swatantra Party. She holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management and earned her BA in Economics from Bryn Mawr College, along with a degree in Mathematics from Haverford College.

Before returning to Nepal in 2015, Sumana worked in the US as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG); and as a trader and financial analyst at Citigroup. In May 2015, following the earthquake in Nepal, she was sent by BCG to work with the World Food Programme during the emergency response. Moved by the situation, she decided to stay in Nepal.

Sumana has been deeply involved in grassroots movements in Nepal, including coordinating the distribution of earthquake relief packages from the Nepali diaspora, leading the management sub-committees of the Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee and Save RaniPokhari, and lobbying for COVID vaccine access for Nepali citizens in the U.S. Senate.

Beyond her philanthropic efforts, Sumana is also an entrepreneur and problem solver. She founded initiatives like Carpool Kathmandu and Medication for Nepal, the latter of which was recognized by President Barack Obama at the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Palo Alto, California, for addressing the fuel crisis and the inequalities worsened by the earthquake.

A published mathematician specializing in topology and geometry, Sumana's career prior to politics included roles as a management consultant and entrepreneur.
