Mick from Parkway Studios gives us another microphone review on the fantastic vintage AKG C451EB Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (SDC).

Made from 1969-1984 the AKG C451EB SDC has been the go-to microphone for a lot of studios around the world because of it's ability to capture that sweet high end in the mix - the response range of 20hz-20k makes it a very thorough and well thought out microphone.

Its amazing on acoustic applications such as:
Acoustic Guitar
Piano
Cello
Violin

It's also amazing on louder applications like:
Overheads
Snare Drums
Toms
Hi-Hats
Cymbals

The CK1 capsule (Cardioid Pattern) is the grand daddy of the 451 capsules and can be repaired back to new by AKG (if yours doesn't sound amazing then send it to AKG for refurbish) these microphones SHOULD sound amazing!
The AKG C451EB is a very versatile microphone with the option of various attenuator applications and capsule modifications:
CK2 capsule (OmniDirectional)
CK5 Capsule (Cardioid - Wiremesh Windscreen)

Should you have this microphone as part of your mic locker?
100% YES you should.
