Elli Barampouti, Sofia Mai and Konstantinos Moustakas from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece, explain how their research develop solutions that convert woody biomass into renewable energy and support low-carbon, circular systems. Biochar is a central focus of this work. In collaboration with CSIC and CERTH, NTUA studies and tests biochar to assess its environmental benefits. Greenhouse experiments examine its effects on soil quality and plant growth, highlighting its potential to improve soil fertility and sustainable agriculture, while supporting the transition to cleaner energy and resilient ecosystems.
