How The AFL-CIO & US Unions Are Pushing Privatization Of Medicare With Joe Maniscalo of Work-Bites

The murder of the United Healthcare CEO has brought an outpouring of anger and hatred not only against United Heatlhcare but against the entire healthcare industry and the privatization of medicare with medicare advantage. There has also been a long struggle in New York City over a secret deal that the City Workers union leadership made with previous Democratic Party mayor DeBlasio to push retired workers into medicare advantage plans that would harm their healthcare benefits while giving a $600 million wage increase to New York City public workers. WorkWeek interviews Joe Maniscalo, founder and editor of Work-Bites, a labor news online journal about this struggle in New York and the support by most of the national unions to help privatize healthcare by pushing medicare advantage on their retirees and members. The AFL-CIO and many national union leadership have contracts with healthcare insurance companies like Anthem, United Healthcare, Humana and others to push medicare advantage which is privatizing the entire medicare system.
