Frank Zappa was never one to follow the program. Ask him for a simple rock ditty and he'll give you a 10-minute doo-wop/jazz fusion epic that modulates twice every measure; ask him for some relatable lyrics and he'll produce an essay waxing philosophical on the finer joys of toe bunions;—ask him to show up to a Mega Man themed compilation album, and he'll arrive decked out in full Marvel apparel, complaining about his terrifyingly massive hitbox.

If we could call Verdi's Requiem a difficult translation to Capcom's iconic style, the most famous song from America's most famous avant-garde rock/jazz/classical musician might as well be the Indus Valley Script. Zappa's winding layers of chords, unabashedly noodly melodies, and offbeat instrumentation may have little in common with Mega Man music, but their parallels with a certain English game composer were too clear to be ignored. After getting permission from Chips n' Cellos to break from the project's main style (a Zappahead as your project lead is never a bad sign!), I began what became one of the most fluid covering experiences I've ever taken part in—once I ripped the base instruments from an 0CC demo module, the process of finding Follinian parallels to Zappa's musical gestures felt almost effortless.

What felt significantly less effortless was the process of providing companion visuals to those parallels. Peaches' complex structure demanded an equally complex video—the graphics switch between 3 distinct styles, all with their own unique effects, and original assets abound—, but this quickly slowed After Effects' performance to gastropodian levels. To give you an idea of what I experienced during the creation of this video, please observe the following statistics:
-9 After Effects crashes
-5 Adobe Media Encoder freezes
-Around 5 sessions per day of staring at Task Manager waiting for disk usage to dip below 100%
-2 (mostly unrelated) mental breakdowns
-2+ weeks spent doing little else of note
-0 seconds spent in anything resembling a flow state
-1 3:42 video
