They are able to walk through a busy street, with people and carriages appearing motionless. The only things that seem to be in motion are the fastest objects, like the wings of a buzzing insect. The story is a fascinating thought experiment on the nature of time and perception. It explores both the exhilarating possibilities and the unforeseen dangers of super-speed, such as the air friction that threatens to set their clothes on fire as they move. The story ends with Gibberne considering how to market the drug, despite its potentially dangerous and unpredictable side effects.
