Sky News host Chris Kenny has congratulated Nicholas Reece on becoming Melbourne Lord Mayor following the resignation of Sally Capp.

“Yep, old mate Nicholas, a shocking lefty from way back, who worked for Julia Gillard and former Victorian Premier John Brumby, he's now Lord Mayor of Melbourne, at least until October when there are council elections,” Mr Kenny said.

“Congratulations Nicholas.

“It's quite a role, quite an honour for you. Make sure you don't stuff it up.

“And let us know if you can help out with maybe an invite to the Melbourne Cup or something."
