A fighting game definitely has its niche audience. Back in the day we used to settle our fights with our virtual bare hands, but when Namco made Soul Edge they changed the game. They brought swords to a fistfight. And the sequel, Soul Calibur 1, launched a series of drastic improvements and a franchise that is still going strong today. An 8-way run system was created that blew the other fighting games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter out of the water. And then it got an amazing port to the Dreamcast that the Soul Calibur gameplay basically set a new standard for all future fighting games. Some call SoulCalibur the best fight game of all time, we'll see how that statement lives up in my Soul Calibur 1 review!
