Another weekend and another air show, another new one for us. Midland Air festival at Ragley hall. Lovely venue, it was like being in the forest of dean with an air show in front of you. Main reason for going was a very rare sight over land in the Uk these days, Saab Draken. One of my favourite, cold war types. first flown in 1955, it operated with Sweden, Finland and Austria before being retired in 2005. It had many first's. First supersonic aircraft in Europe, first use a double delta, first to do Mach 2 in level flight and of course it was first to perform what is now known as the Cobra manoeuvre. With its sleek line, awesome wing design and huge burner, it was certainly a sight not to be missed. Though, as it was over land it had fly an "adapted display" to meet all the stupid CAA regulations post Shoreham 2015, infact this was the first time in 8 years that a civilian owned fast jet had flown an inland UK airshow, So this quite special. Unfortunately, it was like Abingdon backlit to buggery and his display was cut short as he was sent on a wild goose chase by ATC and the he couldn't locate the venue, he did in the end and appeared over the horzion. He came did one flat loop, the plugged in the burner, did a high angle half loop and then a faster pass and buggered off. So it was a little bit, disappointing and unfortunate he had to cut his display short but, hopefully its a start to the classic fast scene to improve in the future, and seeing and hearing her again, was good especially in her new scheme. There was also a C47 Dakota, haven't seen one of these fly for years, The Griffon Spitfire MK18 was cool to see again, wing walkers with their Stearman 75's and my first time seeing the Vampire demo. A good line up the only issue is that its backlit, but I do have an idea for that for next time.
