Adolf Míšek's probably best composition, with a touch of that "magic" because of which we love fine art so much. Míšek lived and worked most of his lifetime in Vienna and in Prague. Born as a Czech, he composed under the strong influence of Czech folk music and oeuvre by Antonin Dvořák. In the later years he also used several solutions rather typical for the compositions by Beethoven and Brahms. Míšek wrote diverse chamber music pieces and several other solo pieces for double bass and piano. Often performed are first and second (out of three) sonatas for double bass and piano, fine composed pieces with many beautiful melodies. But either because of uneven musical content by composing the individual movements (particularly in the very popular 2nd sonata) lack of the inspiration and difficulties in the form (in the 3rd sonata) or for using the melodies obviously written by the other composers (like the main theme from Schubert's Piano Trio in B major, which occurs in the last movement of otherwise excellently composed Míšek's 1st sonata), this wonderful short elegy with its natural flow and genuine content is probably his best work and also my favourite. I hope you will enjoy it. I may upload soon some more of Míšek's pieces here on my YouTube channel.
