Shane (1953) - The Western That Stars You

In this video, I analyze the 1953 classic western Shane, directed by George Stevens.

The purpose of this analysis is to highlight the movie's self-referential qualities, the way it plays with the archetypical heroes and villains in a fashion that's self-conscious and thematically relevant.

Alan Ladd represents good in an almost elemental way. Jack Palance, likewise, becomes almost the living personification of evil, making him one of the greatest villains in all of westerns, and in films in general.
