Parenting is tough, and training your child to face all the difficulties of life is the biggest challenge for any parent. There are some children who are really afraid to fail. Due to this, a child sometime stops trying and putting efforts. Why is it so tough for parents to teach their children to deal with failure?

We have this notion that we shall never fail. Doesn’t matter what happens, we shall never fail. We always think failure is bad. For a parent who have such an approach towards failure, it will be really tough to teach their children to deal with it.

If you look at it the other way round, you’ll notice that when your child was really young and was learning how to walk, you used to celebrate his failure. Even if he falls once, twice, many times, you celebrated his failure. This is what gave him the courage to stand back and try to walk again.

Now imagine, if at that very moment you would have scolded him or would’ve shouted at him? He would’ve never gained enough courage to stand back and walk. This is exactly what happens when they grow up. Parents need to understand that it doesn’t matter if the child fails once or twice, you should always be there standing behind him supporting every failure of your child.

Sushant Kalra is a pioneer in Parenting Education, a TEDx Speaker, and Founder of Parwarish Institute of Parenting (https://parwarish.in/) recalls one incident from his own life. One day when he took his son out for teaching him how to ride a bicycle, his son fell off the bicycle. Mr. Kalra shouted at him for falling down. The kid never gained enough courage for three years to ride a bicycle.

Mr. Kalra says, “Failure is not an end, it is a process.” Everything that you do in life, you fail at it first. You cannot learn anything without facing failure. There is also a very famous saying that a man learns from his past mistakes and his failure.

Failure is the first step towards learning anything. Failure might not be the stepping stone to success. Failure is a process to learn. In order to go, one must fail, and that is what a parent shall tell to his child. It is okay to fail.
