South Kamrup has now became the transit point for illegal timber smugglers. Chhaygaon Aarsu alleged that some Forest Officers have been managed by the timber smugglers. Forest officer demands certain amount of money from the smugglers and gives free hands to those smugglers. Because of that, Chhaygaon AARSU has taken actions against the smugglers and succeeded in maximum of their own operations against the timber smugglers and also they seized lots of illegal timbers. Recently after such an operation in Falaghat, when AARSU members contact the Ranger of Bamunigaon range to hand over the seized timbers he didn't respond to them at all. So they contact another area's Ranger and handed over the timber to Kulshi Range officer. AARSU complaint that the Ranger of Bamunigaon demands twenty thousands rupees from each of the timber smuggler of that area and allow them to smuggling on that area freely.
