Saturday 6th April 2013 saw GWR 4073 'Castle' Class 4-6-0 no.5043 'Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe' on her second outing this year, working the Birmingham Moor Street - London Marylebone - Birmingham Moor Street 'Marylebone Flyer' running non-stop to on the outward run. The first of two shots, she is seen accelerating nicely past a small farm bridge just off Somerton Road, near Ardley and she just about catches a short burst of sunshine before disappearing under the bridge. Unfortunately though in her spirited run past she managed to set fire to the embankment between us and the next bridge down the line, as well as some other places along the line. Of course Network Rail were informed and contacted the fire brigade who managed to get to the fire and put it out about 45 minutes after it had started.

After this we decided to kill a bit of time and head to the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway for a ride on the line. My first time there and it's a nice bit of line, I didn't do any filming though.

For the return shot of the Earl we headed to Saunderton where I had hoped to try for a hilltop location although I wasn't sure how the lineside vegetation would be. Once we got to the bottom of the footpath leading up though we were informed by a chap who'd just been up there that it was indeed no good. We were then told by someone else about another location just north of Saunderton Station where the vegetation wasn't so bad, so after a good natter we headed on over there. Of course with the calamities regarding the morning's fires we had a feeling a diesel would be stuck on the front towing 5043, and we were right as WCRC Class 47 no.47245 & 5043 head past on their way back to Brum. It's a pity because the weather/lighting conditions were about as perfect as you could get, ho hum!

Overall though it was a pleasant day out in the Chilterns and I got to experience some new areas for filming and even visit the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway for the first time.
