This simple, pumping footwork sequence on the Wunda Chair can be varied by changing the arm position depending on the wants and needs of the session. These changes can make the whole series harder or easier. And sometimes it’s just fun to challenge the series with variations.

In my virtual classes, just like in classical pilates, each week we work through an order of exercises with consistency, because like everything else in life, practice with an experienced teacher who can help you advance that makes you better at anything.

At the same time, I incorporate classical variations like these each week. You really develop a strong classical technique with surprise changes here and there each time to keep your mind engaged just as much as your body.

The Wunda Chair I’m using in this video is an original Wunda Chair from Joe Pilates’ original NYC studio, circa estimated 1950s.

⭐️About Elaine Ewing:
Elaine is owner of Rhinebeck Pilates, and a third generation, certified Authentic Pilates teacher and Certified Teacher of Teachers through the New York Pilates Studio®. Elaine is also the owner of many pieces of original equipment from both Joseph Pilates’ 8th Avenue Studio and Carola Trier’s original studio, all of which can be found within Rhinebeck Pilates.

Elaine teaches classical pilates private sessions and group classes both virtually and in-studio at Rhinebeck Pilates, which has been in business since 2003.

Additionally, Elaine presents workshops with Sean Gallagher that are based on Joseph Pilates’ original method and apparatus. In 2018 Elaine worked alongside with Sean Gallagher to help create the yearly conference at Jacob’s Pillow, Pilates at The Pillow®. They continue to host and teach this yearly conference and that has been the first in the pilates community to present “lost” apparatus and original work. Elaine enjoys researching pilates history and maintains a webpage devoted to openly sharing accurate pilates history titled: Pilates History Research Archive.
