Scarce 18th century engraved individual state map, produced within the United States. One of relatively few state maps created within the country prior to 1800.

FIRST MAP OF MAINE PUBLISHED IN THE U.S. OR ANYWHERE ELSE*. Many geographical inaccuracies are noted by Thompson which we can provide on request to the purchaser.

Paper is age-toned with moderate toning, side margins uneven as typical for maps of this era. Still, an entirely acceptable example of this rare antique 18th century American-made seminal map relating to New England.

Original fold lines as issued.

Sheet measures c. 8 1/2" x 11 1/2".

Printed area measures c. 8" x 10 1/2".
