Aghawadda Ambush

Sunday, the 10th of May 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of Aghawadda Ambush during the Irish War Of Independence in West Cork .

The Ambush happened on a Monday, just off the main road between Timoleague and Barryroe. The site, which is close to Aghawadda Crossroads, is about two miles from Timoleague Village.

On that day an IRA ambush party under the Command of Vice Commandant Charlie Hurley, ambushed a foot patrol made up of an RIC Sergeant, two Constables and a Black and Tan.

The three RIC men were killed and the Black and Tan managed to escape.

For the Royal Irish Constabulary Aghawadda Ambush would remain the single incident in which they lost the most members in West Cork, throughout all of the War Of Independence.

This film tells the story of what happened at Aghawadda.
