The Princeton University Art Museum is in Princeton, New Jersey.
Architect David Adjaye was commissioned to design a 144,000 square feet new building.
The museum will double in size.
Steinmann & Cain designed the former building in 1966.
Their collecting history began in 1755, and now houses over 117,000 works of art.
The new three-story museum will include nine connected pavilions that include visible storage space.
Reopening is currently projected for late 2025.
Their collection of African art includes pieces from west, central, and South Africa.
Photographic holdings number over 27,000 works from the invention of daguerreotype in 1839 to the present.
Its Asian art gallery includes Chinese calligraphy, painting, ancient bronze works, jade carvings, and porcelain.
In addition to the museum galleries, the building will host the university's department of art and archaeology.
This museum has a mass timber structure and a brutalist “skin”.
