Can you use bleach to clean mold? The answer is yes. Let's talk about it. Well, the short answer is yes. It might not be the smartest thing you've ever done. See, bleach is only labeled for killing mold on non-porous surfaces. Even the EPA, the CDC, and WebMD doesn't recommend using bleach on non-porous surfaces. You simply can't kill roots that have grown embedded into porous surfaces. You have a lot of other options. The most important thing is to read the manufacturer's label and follow those instructions. This is critical because bad things can happen when you don't follow manufacturer's application. Now, if your mold came from a flood, well, you know what happened and where it came from. And unfortunately, the answer is not going to be an easy one and it's not going to be an inexpensive one. If you simply don't know where your mold problem is coming from, the best answer is to start with an inspection. Find somebody that is a certified thermographer that understands building science. Somebody that can follow globally recognized inspection standards like the IICRC, like ASTM, NADCA, and SMACNA for properly investigating and documenting water damaged buildings. If you'd like to have a discussion, leave a comment below or feel free to give us a call at the office. We'd love to talk about it.
