Cindy Sherman and the unfortunate consequences of her success

THIS VIDEO: Photographer, Cindy Sherman grew up in a strict and religious home with an over-bearing father – she would escape reality by dressing up and using makeup to transform herself into someone else.
Between 1977 and 1980 Sherman worked on what would become her breakthrough series - Untitled Film Stills. She posed as characters from American B-movies and European art house films: the seductress, the bored housewife, the city girl and the vamp. Sherman and her work has been adopted by feminist activists.
