A recent addition to my collection, this blushing “Valentine” pink is my must have this February. It bears a close resemblance to Rhodonite Genuine (now permanently exiled) minus the brown oxidation spots. This slightly warm, less vivid (than quinacridones) rose pink though not great at creating textural effects with salt or gauze, has a certain softness to it. But what I love about it the most is it’s non staining characteristic. While wet this color can be effortlessly pushed around the paper and once dry it can be lifted using a damp brush or a damp natural sponge (my preferred method) to create sunlit areas. I haven’t tried the original, fugitive Rose Madder but this lightfast version mixes perfectly to create a variety hues from rose to coral to peach to purple. A softer cool green like Viridian would make a better visual complement but since I don’t have a Viridian, I’ve used a watered down Phthalo Green BS.
