I don't know about you but as we have been exploring the prophet Isaiah's ministry and message thus far in these chapters 6 through 8 of this book, there seems to be an intensification of the gloom, and intensification of the prophecy of gloom that is coming upon the people of God. If you remember, first, Isaiah prophesied his message would bind up the judgement of God upon the people. Remember in Isaiah 6 when he was gathered, when he was called before the throne of God and he was sent out to preach and to basically bind up judgement upon God's people for their sin, their rebellion.

Then there was the promise that God would send a future child king named Emmanuel. God with us. But not before the people are completely and utterly overrun and impoverished. So actually, the child Emmanuel was gloom, bad news for them, but good news for those who see now that it was ultimately Christ who was being foretold.

And then Isaiah has another boy, or he has a boy whose name is Shear-Jashub meaning a remnant will remain. That's the good news God will keep a remnant, then he has
another son whose name means "swift is the booty" or "swift
or speedy is the prey" in other words he's talking about the speed at which the Assyrians are going to come and overwhelm the people of God in their judgment.

It would seem that things couldn't get worse. Today they get worse.
