Mridanga Crash Course Lesson 2: Simple Notations, Hand Gesture Variations & Srila Prabhupada's First Mantra

Welcome back to the second lesson of our 8-session Mridanga Crash Course! Today, we'll expand on what we learned in the previous session by introducing simple notations for writing and remembering mantras. We'll also revisit the "Te Re Khe Ta" mantra with some variations in hand gestures. Finally, we'll learn a new practice mantra, which was one of the first mantras Srila Prabhupada taught to his disciples when introducing them to the Mridanga.

What You'll Learn:

1. Simple and Easy Notations:

How to write and remember mantras using simple notations:

RHC: Right Hand Close

RHO: Right Hand Open

LHC: Left Hand Close

LHO: Left Hand Open

2. Review & Variation of the Previous Mantra

Te Re Khe Ta with variations in hand gestures:

Te (RHC: Right Hand Close with 3 fingers)

Re (RHO: Right Hand Open with Index finger)

Khe (LHC: Left Hand Close with 4 fingers)

Ta (RHO: Right Hand Open with Index finger)

3. New Practice Mantra:

The first mantra that Srila Prabhupada taught to his

disciples:

Khi Ti Ta, Khi Ti Ta, Khi Ti Ta, Khi Ta

Ghe Ti Ta, Ghe Ti Ta, Ghe Ti Ta, Ghe Ta


This new mantra is fundamental for progressing in your Mridanga practice and is deeply rooted in our tradition.
