There are many stories of Sormeh around the ancient civilisations, from ancient Egypt to wonderful India & Persians have their very own special methods of making it. Every culture makes it differently. In Ancient Persia they used to use it for eyes & eyebrows both as Sormeh was counted beneficial both for eye sight as well as hair growth so they used to use it on infants’ eyes for beautiful eyelash growth. Also it has been said Sormeh is the protector of evil eyes. There is an ancient Persian myth about Sormeh, that if you swallow it you can lose your vocals.

سرمه چشم، نگهبان چشم، زیبایی خیره کننده سرمه با هیچ چیزی قابل قیاس نیست. زیبایی بخش و البته سودمند. قصص زیادی در مورد سرمه و سرمه کشیدن از مصر باستان گرفته تا هند شگفت انگیز موجود است و ایران زمین نیز متد و شیوه های خاص خود را در تهیه سرمه دارا میباشد. فرهنگهای مختلف به روشهای مختلف سرمه را درست میکنند. در ایران باستان سرمه را هم برای چشم و هم برای ابرو استفاده میکردند و باورها بر آن بود که سرمه هم باعث ازدیاد نور چشم و رشد مو میشود. همچنین سرمه برای چشم و ابروی نوزادان نیز استفاده میشده تا در زمان بلوغ دارای چشمان زیبا و مژه های بلند گردند. همچنین سرمه بعنوان نگهبان و حافظ چشم زخم نیز بحساب میامده است. افسانه های ایران باستان بر این باور بوده است که بلعیدن سرمه باعث از دست دادن تارهای صوتی و سبب لال شدن نیز میباشد.
