Metacognition in English Language Teaching: Translating Research to Practice

Описание к видео Metacognition in English Language Teaching: Translating Research to Practice

[ELL Talks and Seminars]

Interest in translating theories of metacognition to educational practice has been accelerated by virtue of its association with the envisioned self-directed learning of the 21st century. In Singapore, it is one of three main focus areas of the English language syllabus. Despite this, the take up in English language classrooms seems slow. In this talk, I will suggest why this has been the case, focusing the argument on issues around theories of learning, subject-specificity, awareness, and language. Drawing on the argument, I will propose some principles and approaches to pedagogy which are designed to enable the translation of the theory to classroom practice. There will be time for the audience to discuss and evaluate the proposals.

Speakers:
Dr. Sally Ann Jones, NIE NTU Singapore
