Battle of Fredericksburg | Marye's Heights

The Battle of Fredericksburg was one of the worst defeats for the Union Army during the American Civil War. The most famous part of the battle was the numerous Union attacks on Marye's Heights. This is part one of a three part series on this section of the battle. This part features the opening attacks on the heights with the divisions of Hancock and French of the Second Corps. I hope this video helps to highlight the bravery of the Union troops as they marched into certain death. The Union Army threw brigade after brigade against the Confederate line atop Marye's Heights just outside the town of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Union General Ambrose Burnside, bent on breaking the gray line sent in more troops and the same devastation awaited the fresh troops. It was simply a massacre and one in which Robert E. Lee was alleged to have said, "It is good war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it."
