The big city Game was played under the name Mini-Munich for the first time in August 1979 as the International Year of the Child takes place and since forth every two years, for three weeks, from the first week of the holidays the summer holidays in Munich. Using similar concepts Match towns and cities children worldwide, for example in Austria, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Egypt, Italy and Japan.

In the game and in a built small town with all necessary facilities, it needs a complex city game, the children revitalize their city, go different professions to negotiate political issues, study, meet, go shopping, eat or to the movies. The game is partly up to 3000 participating children per day the biggest holiday program in Munich and is financed in part from the state capital. It is considered one of the most famous cultural education projects in Germany. 2014 was Mini-Munich for the first time on the grounds of the Zenith Halle (Freimann).
