Tasmanian Devil facts: Shouting for Food | Animal Fact Files

Tasmanian devils are known for their fierce some calls which they make when gathered in groups at a meals, however, most of the time these devils live in solitude. While they're currently only found on the island of Tasmania, it's believed that Tasmanian devils once inhabited the Australian mainland, as well. They were likely driven off by people as well as pressure from dingos. These animals average the size of a housecat on average, though they can weigh as much as a medium sized dog. They're mostly nocturnal and spend their days hiding in burrows, caves, and hollow logs. At night, they seek out food in the form of carrion, but they can also hunt animals from insects to wallabies! Their diet is mostly carnivorous and they are considered the largest living carnivorous marsupials alive today! Well, unless the Tasmanian wolf isn't extinct ;)

Range: Tasmania
Size: 8.8 to 26.5 pounds (4-12kg)
Diet: carrion, rabbits, insects, snakes, wombats, wallabies, etc.
Lifespan: 5 years on average
