Over the Labour Day public holiday in October 2025, our family joined the Mahinay family for a memorable road trip to Melbourne - a city that never fails to charm with its mix of art, culture, and great coffee. The long weekend was the perfect time to explore, reconnect, and make new memories together.

Our morning was spent wandering through Melbourne’s famous laneways, soaking in the energy of the city. We couldn’t resist stopping by Brother Baba Budan, one of Melbourne’s most iconic coffee spots. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as we squeezed into the cosy café, its quirky ceiling of hanging chairs adding to the city’s creative vibe. Their signature latte was smooth, rich, and full of character - a true taste of Melbourne.

Food was, of course, a big part of our trip. One of the highlights was dining at Soi 38, a hidden Thai gem tucked away in a car park on Bourke Street. The atmosphere was vibrant and authentic, and the food was absolutely delicious, spicy, savoury, and comforting all at once. Sharing that meal with the Mahinay family made it even more special, as laughter and good food always go hand in hand.

We also had the wonderful opportunity to blend with the local church in Melbourne for a heartfelt time of fellowship. Another family from Sydney joined us, and together we shared the beautiful connection that faith brings, no matter where we are.

We also met up with my good friend Henry, who warmly welcomed us into his home and to his restaurant. It was inspiring to see how far he’s come, and I couldn’t help but feel proud of his success and the passion he pours into his work. Sharing a meal with him was one of the highlights of the trip, filled with laughter, stories, and genuine gratitude for friendship.

Before heading back to Sydney, we wrapped up our Melbourne adventure with a fascinating visit to the Yakult Factory. The tour was surprisingly fun and educational as we learned how each tiny bottle of Yakult is produced and the science behind its probiotics. It was a unique and refreshing way to end our journey.

The next morning, we packed up and began our drive back to Sydney, hearts full of joy and gratitude for the memories made. Our Labour Day weekend in Melbourne wasn’t just about sightseeing, it was about connection, faith, friendship, and the little experiences that make travel truly meaningful.
