Another obscure, out of print album.
I recall seeing this one back around 1990 in the (physical) record shops, but never picked it up at that time to discover that it's essentially a Special Efx album. With the exception of a few very short tracks which feature John Stannard playing various percussion effects, the remainder of the album consists of George Jinda and Chieli Minucci (Special Efx's founding members) along with assistance from other musicians who appeared of many of the early Special Efx albums (Ferando Saunders, Micheal Beardon) and Special Efx engineer and studio whiz Paul Wickliffe. Also appearing is percussionist Mino Cinelu on 2 of the albums tracks. With the exception of the very short solo percussion tracks by John Stannard and one (fantastic) solo track by Mino Cinelu my guess is the only reason this didn't come out as a 'Special Efx' disc was simply because it's far less commercial than the more melodic, slicker, less experimental recordings the band was doing. I also added a 'bonus track' also from another out of print album. From the various artists compilation "The Big Bang: The Best Of Ellipsis Arts Global Percussion Masters" is a track not available anywhere else, "Village" which is a percussion duet between George Jinda and Mino Cinelu. This track is dated from 1990, so it's entirely possible that this track was recorded around the same time (and possibly studio) as the "Om" album.
For fans of Jinda's percussion especially this is a real treat since there's a lot of Jinda's fantastic percussion work here, all heard without being accompanied by any guest drummers (as was often the case on Special Efx albums).
For me personally I categorize this as a Special Efx album. And as such it's one of my personal favorite things done by the team of George Jinda & Chieli Minucci.
