Описание к видео Neck Pain and cervical disc herniation. Surgery and other treatment options.

Disc herniations not only occur in the lower back (lumbar spine) but can also occur in the neck (cervical spine). In fact, disc herniations or bony spurs, in the neck are very common. When this happens it can cause pressure on a nerve which causes pain.

In this video, I talk about disc herniations the neck, what symptoms they can cause and what treatment options you have. Typically, symptoms include neck pain, arm pain, numbness and tingling, and sometimes weakness in the arm or hand.

MRI is the best investigation to work out if you have a cervical disc herniation and how severe it is. Treatment options for a disc herniation in the neck include:

• Analgesics and rest
• Anti-inflammatories
• Physical therapies
• Steroid injections (nerve root injections)
• Surgery – ACDF or cervical disc replacement
