Another weekend Saturday, as usual we are going to explore a beautiful less known destination in Richardson.
You don’t always have to trek deep into the wilderness to see breathtaking waterfalls — sometimes, they’re hiding right under our noses in city parks! The falls at Prairie Creek Park in Richardson are absolutely spectacular and require very minimal effort to access.

Founded in 1966, Prairie Creek is among the oldest and most historically significant parks in Richardson. Improvements have been minimal to respect the wishes of residents as well as for conservation purposes.

Short-and-sweet trails wind through the park, featuring two wooden pedestrian bridges, eye-popping wildflowers, rich greenery, and many more spectacular sights. It's a perfect opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and simply enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer.

Birds chirp high up in the trees, and the sweet scent of honeysuckle drifts through the air and into your nostrils. Plenty of benches and picnic tables allow visitors to sit down for a spell and take in the surroundings.

It's hard to even tell you're in the city, with the sounds of traffic almost inaudible through the thick brush. Bring along a picnic lunch and revel in the tranquility of solitude.

Among the man-made additions is a truly breathtaking waterfall that flows with a powerful, determined might. You'll hear the unmistakable roar long before laying eyes on it -- a peaceful, yet ferocious sound that clears the mind and renews the spirit.

This is Huck Finn Trail runs through Prairie Creek Park. This Park is spread over 37.2 acres that runs as a greenbelt along Prairie Creek and preserves some of the city’s last undeveloped land. The heavily wooded areas provide homes to a large variety of species of birds and small mammals. Ten native trees have been marked along this trail. Take note of their unique leaves or flowers and you should be able to identify them thought out the neighborhood.

Prairie Creek became a park in 1966. It was purchased from Campbell family, one of the Richardson’s most prominent founding families.

The family owned both sides of Praire Creek and constructed concrete dam to allow a passage across the creek and to water corps and cattle. In 1990’s the dam was turned into a waterfall and to this day it remains an important landmark where families and students will come to take photos, picnic, or admire scenery. Praire Creek is proud to have won an award for Lone Star Legacy Park Recognition by The Texas Recreation and parks Society in 2018.
