I had a maintenance request come in saying both dryers at an apartment building would not start. Based on that, I figured maybe an electrical issue, or maybe bad door switches. This particular Whirlpool dryer has a belt switch that will prevent the dryer from starting if the tensioner loses tension. Well, both dryers had broken belts.
I'm not sure why it happened, but I am assuming somebody overloaded the dryer, then when one stopped working they switched to the other and caused the same problem.
I have never replaced a belt on this style of dryer, but it was pretty straight forward and similar to other dryers. Remove the top cover to disconnect the door switch, then the lower cover and lint trap, then the door cover.
Clean it out, swap out the belt (fortunately my local appliance repair shop had two ready to go) and the reassemble. Here's a video I put together from this project. I forgot to film the first one, but after doing the first one, the second went a lot faster anyway since I figured it all out.
