Edsel Ford was the only child of Clara and Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company. He was the president of Ford Motor Company from 1919 to his death in 1943. He is credited with the installation of hydraulic brakes on Ford cars, and later, helping his father build a six-cylinder to sell along side the V-8. He also developed the safety glass in 1926, which became a feature of the Model A in 1927. Edsel and his wife Eleanor's Estate is now a National Historic Landmark in Grosse Point Shores, Michigan and is open for tours and special occasions.
