Deepawali was celebrated at Iris florets, Balewadi, Pune centre by playing short titled, The Ramayana: The victory of good over evil.

It is a very old epic written by sage Valmiki, which is full of exciting stories with moral lessons.

King Dasharatha was the king of Ayodhya. He had four sons. Rama was the eldest and would have become king after his father. But his step mother Kaikeyei wanted her own son Bharat to be the next king. So she made king Dasharatha send Rama and his wife Sita out of the kingdom to live in the forest.

Rama, Sita and Lakshmana wandered for a long time in the forest. They moved from one place to another and survived on what they could find in the forest. One day the left Sita alone and went off in search of golden deer, which was nothing, but magically created by the king of demons, Ravana. While they were away, the ten-headed Ravana, tricked Sita and carried her off to Lanka. Rama returned, Ram became very sad to find that Sita was not at home. They searched for her everywhere but could not find Sita.

Ravana heard about the search for Sita. He was very angry. He did not want to lose Sita. Rama, Lakshmana, Vibhishana, Sugriva, Hanuman and a large band of monkeys now moved towards Lanka to rescue Sita.

When Rama saw Ravana he shot him in the head with his bow and arrow. He shot many arrows and each arrow cut off one of Ravana’s ten heads; but as one head cut off, another head grew in its place. At last Rama used the magic arrow that Agastya had given him and shot Ravana dead.

Rama and Sita then returned to their Kingdom leaving Vibhishana as the king of Sri Lanka. All this while, Bharata had looked after the kingdom for Rama. He was happy to see his elder brother back on the throne as the king.
