Скачать или смотреть ATR Crosswind Difficulties, Landings & Takeoffs (Aurigny ATR42 & Aer Lingus ATR72) | Bristol Airport

(WATCH IN 1080p and fullscreen) A strong southerly wind perpendicular to the runway with persistent awkward gusts caused some difficulties for these ATR turboprops landing and departing Bristol Airport today (17th April 2018).

The two aircraft in the video are an Aurigny ATR42-500 arriving from Guenrsey and an Aer Lingus ATR72-600 coming from Cork. Whenever the wind is up, it's always worth watching the ATRs, they seem to struggle the most in such conditions.

Notice how the aircraft are both wobbling on approach, and are coming in at an angle to the runway to keep the aircraft on course (crab landing). Once down on the ground they both sway quite violently from side to side trying to stay on the centreline. Similarly, during takeoff the aircraft immediately turn into the wind - appearing to fly sideways! Kudos to the pilots on this challenging day at Bristol.
