The Perfect Vegetarian Curry: Matar Paneer
Craving a heartwarming and flavorful vegetarian dish? Look no further than the ever-popular Matar Paneer! This classic curry features soft paneer cubes simmered in a rich and creamy tomato gravy with fresh green peas, creating a delicious and satisfying meal. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering, Matar Paneer is a crowd-pleaser everyone will love.
Here's what you'll need:
1/2 cup green Peas (boiled)
1 cup Paneer Cubes
2 tbsp Cooking Oil
1 chopped Onion
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
Purée of 3 medium Tomatoes
1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
1 tsp Cumin Powder (Jeera)
1 tbsp Coriander Powder (Dhania)
1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
1/2 cup Water
2 tbsp Curd (Yogurt)
Pinch of Black Pepper
1 tsp Dried Fenugreek Leaves (Kasuri Methi)
Chopped Coriander Leaves (for garnish)
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Sauté the Onions: Heat oil in a pan or pot. Add onions and a pinch of salt. Sauté until softened and slightly golden brown.
Add Ginger Garlic & Spices: Add ginger garlic paste and cook for a minute, stirring constantly.
Simmer the Tomato Purée: Add the tomato purée and simmer for a few minutes, until the oil separates from the masala.
Spice it Up! Add Kashmiri red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder. Stir well and cook for another minute.
Add Water & Curd: Pour in the water and simmer for a few minutes. Then, stir in the curd (yogurt) and cook for another minute. Cover the pan and simmer for 4-5 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken.
Welcome the Peas & Paneer: Add the boiled green peas and some water (if needed to adjust consistency). Bring to a simmer, then gently fold in the paneer cubes.
Finishing Touches: Stir in kasuri methi (crumbled fenugreek leaves) and simmer for a minute. Season with black pepper to taste.
Garnish & Serve: Garnish your Matar Paneer with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti, rice, or naan. Enjoy!
