Today, I bought a real tripod for myself. The ProMaster Scout!

Did I not have a tripod prior? I did, a small one. One so small the legs barley reached outside my fist as I would clench the three ribbed legs in my hand. You never forget a tripod like that one. Especially given the circumstances I lost it. I forget the specifics at the moment, but I remember the feeling: disappointment.

I was on the Colorado Trail, finding new shots and fun ways to prop my camera in my ‘moving fixed’ shots. Following a sudden afternoon thunderstorm, in which i would daily panic in attempt to keep all my gear dry. In one of these storms the tripod fell from the hip pocket I carried my creative gear.
Nonetheless, I was able to frame shots adequately, but with more patience and adjustments.

Upon reaching Leadville, CO, I related this story to a fello hiker. In jest, i divined she find a new minion tripod for myself in the hiker box. And so it was. ( A hiker box is a community box where you are able to take a little, leave a little in classic hostel fashion. As hikers are very niche specific travel sets, our needs are very set. The items on may take, or leave, could range from shoe insoles to matcha powder to duct tape to, in my luck case, a small tripod. Honestly, to anyone else, I could see hope I convinced it would be to set up a a fixed shot for any reason, and needless to carry this piece of gear.

It was wonderful, and then a leg snapped off. My tripod became a bipod. I continued to make the most of my new bipedal companion. Until it too became a tragedy of walking.

This is a great tripod for the value. It has 2 bubble levels to even out the shot. In addition the stock head is omnidirectional to position the camera in multiple variations with the tripod setup.

The legs are separate in 3 sections allowing for adjustments over uneven terrain. The aluminum structure is light and sturdy.

Lastly, the mounting head moves up on the y-axis to further accommodate and dial in the perfect shots.
