Standing tall for over 120 years, this historic Gothic Revival church was designed by famed architect Henry Schlacks. It was supposedly modeled after a church in Germany and was built for German immigrants that settled in the area in the 1890s.

The church operated for decades, but in 1989 the Archdiocese closed down the church and moved elsewhere. The church sat dormant for some years and many preservation efforts were undertaken throughout the 1990’s.

Noting the significance of this church and architect, it is claimed to be one of the great religious buildings in the city, and in 1989, the church was purchased and reestablished. The new owners invested in a new roof, electrical, plumbing and heating system, as the building had been sitting for a decade.

The church operated normally for some time after, but eventually ran into funding issues in the 2010’s. The current owner’s ended up shutting down the church, leaving it to sit dormant. Within the span of the last couple years, scrappers and vandals have had free reign on the building, and it now sits tagged and vandalized.

At some point after the closure, the metal ridge that once ran the length of the roof has been removed for unknown reasons, leaving the inside of the attic open to the elements. More than likely done in order to make money scrapping the material used. This has caused countless amounts of water damage to the historic building, and it seems there are currently no plans to take action to preserve the church.
