For over 35 years, the Toyota 4Runner has been the mid-sized SUV that has seamlessly blended rugged 4x4 capability with a smooth city drive… and the 2022 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition is a great example of this.

Most of us are not going rock crawling or getting stuck in 3-foot deep mud pits. We are going to work during the week and exploring the back roads on the weekends. This is where the 4Runner Trail Edition fits in.

The Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition is still a rugged body on frame construction, has a V6 4.0L engine paired with the 5-speed automatic transmission, can tow up to 5,000 pounds and has a part time 4WD system with 2-high, 4-high, and 4-low. It also has an Active Traction Control System that will automatically help prevent the spinning of 4 wheels when the vehicle is started or accelerated on slippery road surfaces when in low 4WD.

The exterior of the Trail Edition has LED fog lights, LED head lights, 17” dark grey TRD Off Road wheels, black badging, and a Yakima roof basket.

Both front seats are black fabric with tan stitching. The driver’s seat is an 8-way power adjustable seat, and there is seating for 5. In the rear of the 4Runner Trial you get the added sliding cargo tray for ease of loading and unloading.

Here in Canada, the 2022 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition has an MSRP of $47,250. So if you do not need the added off-road features such as Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, or a Locking Rear Differential, why spend an addition $7,420 for the TRD Off Road Package or $18,000 for the TRD Pro when the 4Runner Trail Edition might have everything you need.
