OVERVIEW
Shadow To Shine is continuing its industry insight webinar series with an exclusive peek into the lives of a selection of successful business leaders and entrepreneurs who will share their tips for success with our young people. Harnessing the expertise and experience of our impressive professional network, Shadow To Shine is bridging the gap between young people’s career goals and those who are at the top of the game. In a panel that spans multiple industries and backgrounds, we’ll hear first-hand insight of our speaker’s journeys to get to where they are today, as well as their advice for young people who are thinking about starting a business and embarking on entrepreneurship.
CONTEXT
As the professional landscape continues to evolve, more and more people are turning to entrepreneurship and opting to be their own boss. We’re seeing side hustles become the norm, with people leveraging the power of platforms such as Instagram, Depop and Etsy to elevate their business and showcase their creativity.
And it seems the next generation may just be the most entrepreneurial yet. A recent study published in the FT shows that 58% of Gen Z want to own their own businesses, and 14% are owners of entrepreneurial startups. Couple this with the findings from a recent survey carried out by GoDaddy, which found that 630,000 ventures were launched by ‘early entrepreneurs’ in the UK since the start of the pandemic, we may just be embarking on one of the biggest entrepreneurial booms yet.
But whilst these figures show much promise of what’s to come and signal hope of a dramatic shift in the way we work, the reality is that starting your own business is tough. 20% of start-ups fail in their first year and only around half make it to five years. With this in mind, we feel it is more important than ever to equip young people with the advice and guidance they need to succeed.
