Fifth Dominion were an Irish technical death metal band. They formed from the ashes of Misanthropy, which you might know from their "Bruised Opinion" demo (super cool, you should check it out!). Active from 1992 to 1994, the band recorded 3 demos, "Pain, Rage & Laughter" being their 2nd release.
If you're familiar with Misanthropy, I think you would agree that Fifth Dominion's music could be described as "Misanthropy but more chaotic". They take what they did on "Bruised Opinion" and add some guitar wankery every riff and a half. It still have a bunch of straight forward moments, but now there's a bunch of technical breaks and a heavy use of synths for atmosphere.
After disbanding in 1994, some members took the band's name and made it "THE Fifth Dominion" and recorded a single death doom demo.
