Some notes for future reference (so it’s easier to make the next one!):

George Porter Jr. plays a P-Bass so I tried to emulate the sound based on some reading by soloing the neck pickup (think my bridge pickup is about 30% here). Have no idea if it worked, I’m still a bit ‘tone’ deaf if you get me…

In Ableton Live I dipped the album audio to about -7dB and then pushed the bass to +6dB. Then I limit it later in Premiere. Don’t know if this makes sense, will do it until I get some better advice or complaints.

For the album track I lowered the bass frequencies with an EQ filter to help my bass stand out easier.

I had to record this quite a few times – even though the riff is quite simple, when I listened back to the middle section my low string muting on the E string was not cutting it at all! I’m playing with a much more “flat right thumb” playing style than usual so I can lean it back across all the lower strings when I go up high.

I remembered to move the camera down to show both hands. I also found that hooking the headphone wire under my leg keeps it away from the body so it doesn’t vibrate and distract me.

For next time, remember to move the guitar strap out of the way!
