The 2024 Annual Gathering of the Alliance of Baptists opened with worship at Myers Park Baptist Church on Friday, April 12, 2024. Rev. Mia McClain of Riverside Church in Washington, D.C. preached a powerful sermon on the passage commonly known as "The Great Commission," from Matthew 28. Music was led by Carolina Social Music Club. Special thanks to MPBC for hosting, J. Kevin Gray for coordinating the music, and Wes Cobb for coordinating the recording.

Welcome and Call to Worship: Reverend Dr. Benjamin Boswell
Here on this holy ground once teeming with life and tended by the Catawba before colonial settlers stole it and transformed it into a center of commerce and capitalism,
we gather to recognize where we are and resist where complacency and comfort can lead us.
Here in this sacred space designed to reflect those spaces where our colonial ancestors worshiped, spaces that barred black and brown bodies from entry, segregating Christ’s body from itself,
we gather to remember our past and re-member Christ’s body more wholly and more holy.
Here, as a holy expression of Christ’s body,
we gather to repent of our past and reimagine our future.
Here, within the individual bodies that brought us here and through which we shine the divine light within us,
we gather to rekindle our partnerships and resolve to serve one another in solidarity.
Here, with the hearts and minds that open our hands and guide our steps,
we gather to renew our commitment to Jesus’ great commission, not to build empires, but to become disciples.
