This is an overview of embedded BI (business intelligence), SharePoint, SharePoint integration, and the way PSC embeds business intelligence into SharePoint systems.

Many PSC customers use SharePoint for Internet-based and intranet-based applications, to provide information access and delivery for HR, financial and other processes within their organizations. SharePoint works well for their business processes, and they need software packages to integrate with SharePoint in a way that supports those business processes. PSC can deliver BI as a service to SharePoint or any other web-based application.

In the SharePoint environment, PSC offers seamless embedded BI solutions for Microsoft BI, as well as Business Objects integration. Business Objects is one of the leading BI products on the market. The PSC embedded BI tool delivers information that could be viewed by the user as a dashboard or navigation pane, or it could expose a My Reports folder. Embedded BI technology can expose multiple business intelligence systems through SharePoint. An organization might have service reports as well as Business Objects reports in the same system, and want to deliver coordinating reports and dashboards across both systems, so customers can make decisions about which information they use.

It doesn't make a difference whether it is SharePoint 2007 or SharePoint. PSC provides both options, and when the next version of SharePoint is available, PSC will offer integration with that release. This is accomplished by creating a different wrapper for each version of SharePoint.

When companies use Business Objects reports and SharePoint, they often go through a rigorous manual process to schedule reports to run, converting those reports to a PDF format, then finally exporting the report and putting it into a folder within SharePoint 2007 or 2010. The problem with a manual process is the inexactness of the process. There are bound to be points of failure. The PSC solution exposes the structure as a web service and automatically integrates it within SharePoint, essentially leveraging the security model and structure of the organization's existing BI system and exposing it to a view within the business intelligence system.

Another disadvantage when customers go through a manual process to convert information to a PDF is that the reports lose all interactivity. PSC customers want to be able to interact with the information and drill down from report to report, or drill down within a report to access report detail. The PSC system preserves the interactivity customers want from a user experience perspective.
