After repenting and receiving forgiveness from the Lord, how do we overcome lingering feelings of guilt and shame?

One helpful answer can be found in the Book of Mormon through the scriptural episode of Alma the Younger and the sons of King Mosiah. Despite their persecution toward “any of those who belonged to the church of God” (Mosiah 27:2), Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah experienced a significant change of heart, repented, converted to the Lord, and experienced forgiveness of their sins.

Following this experience, they did all they could to restore the consequences of their mistakes and labored diligently the remainder of their days to preach the gospel and build the kingdom.

We, too, can strive to remedy or reconcile. In the end, full restitution is in Christ and in His grace. We do what we can and leave the rest in the hands of the Savior.
