Flint City Council members tonight voted on a measure to approve the first-round of ARPA funding for essential pay to city employees who worked during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The city of Flint has about 95 million dollars in COVID Relief Money (ARPA Funds) from the Federal Government. Council voting to approve the essential pay is the first allocation of any of that money.

During the special council meeting, the council voted 8-to-1 to approve the measure for police and fire personnel.

The council also approved essential pay for city employees in Local 1600 and Local 1799 personnel in a 7-to-2 vote.

According to Flint Mayor Sheldon Neely, $2.7 million of the ARPA funds has been allocated for essential city employees.
